The story behind Scott + Story

SKO

The journey here.

I didn’t plan to become a celebrant. I planned, throughout my teens and early adulthood, to be in theatre. I trained in performance, storytelling, movement, presence: the craft of understanding how a room feels and how to hold it.

Then I spent years doing something very different, in the corporate world of tech sales consulting. Listening closely to people, unpicking what they actually needed and turning that into something precise and meaningful.

Two careers that seemed unconnected, until I realised what connects them: both taught me how to find what actually matters to someone. How to be genuinely present with another person. How to listen past the obvious answer. And how to give it back to them in a way they can feel.

The name.

Scott + Story is named for my family: for the people who shaped how I think about love, about commitment, about the moments worth marking. And it’s named for what I believe: that every person, every couple, carries their own unique story. My job is to find it, shape it and hand it to them in a room full of the people they love most.

Most ceremonies are forgettable. Not because the people in them aren’t wonderful, but because the ceremony never truly found them. It followed a script that could have belonged to anyone. I’ve sat through those ceremonies. I’ve watched people’s eyes glaze over, distracted during their own vows. That’s what I’m here to fix.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably the kind of person who has been thinking about what your ceremony actually means. Not just the logistics of it — the meaning of it. That’s where this starts.

What makes me different?

When you book with Scott + Story, here’s what you’re actually getting.

  1. 1.

    Written from scratch. Always.

Not a template with your names dropped in, not a structure borrowed from the last couple. Yours starts with YOU. Your story, your people, your particular way of being in love and builds from there.

  2. 2.

    Presence, not performance.

Years in theatre taught me how to hold a room, read its energy and let a moment land. Your guests will feel the difference even if they can't name it: the gap between a ceremony you watch and one you feel.

  3. 3.

Calm, from first hello to "I do."

You won't spend the months before your wedding wondering whether it'll be right. The preparation is thorough, the communication clear, and every bit of admin lifted off your plate so you arrive knowing, not hoping.

  4. 4.

    No small boxes. Ever.

Whoever you are, however you love, whatever you believe, you belong here. I celebrate the modern landscape of love in all its forms, and some of my favourite ceremonies are the ones that binned every convention going.

  5. 5.

    One wedding a day.

I take a single ceremony a day, and a small number each year. You're never squeezed between couples, never rushed, never "the 2 o'clock" — just the whole of me, on the day it all comes down to.

  6. 6.

    Your guests, properly in it.

The best ceremonies don't happen at a room; they pull it in. I build communal moments — the laughter, the lump in the throat, the bits where your people are in the story, not just politely waiting for the bar.

The reassuring bit

I'm certified by the Academy of Modern Celebrancy and a member of The Celebrant Guild, with full insurance — £5m public liability and £1m professional indemnity. Celebrancy is a largely unregulated field, so none of that is a given; with me, it's a promise. Venues often like a certificate for their file and I'm always happy to provide one.
